Dry Skin

Xerosis, commonly known as dry skin, is a medical condition characterized by dry, rough, and scaly skin. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including low humidity, cold weather, long hot showers or baths, certain medications, and underlying skin or systemic conditions. Xerosis can lead to itching, cracking, and redness, and can make the skin more susceptible to infection. The treatment of xerosis involves rehydrating the skin by using a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer, avoiding harsh soaps and hot showers, and avoiding exposure to irritants. In some cases, a dermatologist may prescribe topical or oral medications to relieve symptoms and treat underlying causes of the dry skin.
