Epidermal Inclusion Cysts

An epidermal inclusion cyst (EIC) is a common type of skin cyst that occurs when a small section of the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin) becomes trapped within the dermis (the deeper layer of skin). This can cause a small, round bump to form under the skin, which is usually painless but may be tender to the touch. Treatment options for EICs include observation when small and asymptomatic, or excision to remove the cyst wall and contents. It's important to see a dermatologist for proper diagnosis and treatment of EICs, as they can sometimes resemble other, more serious skin conditions. Early treatment can help prevent the cyst from growing larger or becoming inflamed.
